Is there kumite or randori?

| Print this page |

Not really. Even Sport Jitsu inhibits techniques by restricting the hands with gloves, since to fight full on with Jitsu techniques would result in considerable injury (one of the reasons for the invention of Judo was the decline of popularity of Jitsu from the many deaths occuring during fights between students!). So we don’t do sparring or randori, except for our occasional Judo-style competitions.

We have our own versions of sparring (‘Vs’, ‘gauntlets’ and ‘circles’) that are more cooperative and less liable to result in damage.
