Chain defences

| Print this page |

Chains can be frightening weapons, but it's worth remembering that they're a long-range weapon – it's the end of the chain you have to worry about, and only if it has some momentum behind it. So if you're close to the attacker, or a part of the chain near the attacker's hand hits you, it's hard for the chain to do you any damage.

Chains can come at you from a variety of directions, including a straight down attack, a back-handed attack and a whirling attack from the side. Jitsu teaches you defences to all these kinds of chain attacks, initially against plastic safety chains before graduating on to metal chains at higher grades.
