7th kyu
There are four levels of yellow belt, denoted by the number of stripes (or mons) on the belt. Yellow III is the top level while an unadorned yellow belt is the bottom level.
Requirements for yellow
- Ukemi: Students must exhibit good posture and timing. Forwards, backwards and sideways falling from kneeling and standing, including the ukemi kata and peglegs
- Throws: Major outer reap, minor outer reap, minor outer prop
- Grab defences: Strangles (front and rear), wrist releases (single handed from the front and two-handed from the front), hair and ear grabs (front and rear), and lapel grabs
- Strikes (‘dangerous parts’)
- Locks: Three arm locks and three wrist locks
- Weapon defences: bottle from overhead and backhand attacks
