6th kyu
There are four levels of orange belt, denoted by green mons on the belt. Orange belts going for green belt are expected to be able to defend themselves reasonably well in a fight against an unarmed attacker.
To reach orange belt from white belt can take as little as six months, if you train once a week.
Additional requirements for orange
- Ukemi: Drop, over-the-belt, kick-up-and-drop
- Throws: shoulder drop; major hip; shoulder throw; minor inner reap from a kick; and hip wheel
- Kicks: front kick and side kick
- Grab defences: Releases from front and rear body grabs
- Hold-downs: Scarf, shoulder, side four quarters
- Locks: Three more arm locks and basic put-down and finish for wristlocks
- Weapon defences: cosh (overhand and backhand)
- Knowledge of the importance of warm-up and cool-down techniques
- Knowledge of kuzushi and Migi Shizentai (right natural posture)
