3rd kyu
Light blue is the point at which students are preparing to become teachers in their own rights. Knowledge of the philosophies behind jitsu are also important which is why the nage no kata is taught at this level.
Other requirements for light blue
- Ukemi: Kick-up-and-drop (no support), over-the-belt (no support), pulling legs out into drop
- Throws: Sleeve, lifting, drawing hip, minor lifting drawing hip, side wheel, drop knee shoulder throw, two-handed shoulder throw, floating drop, inner-thigh attack, advancing foot sweep
- Counters: Wristlocks four to six
- Locks: Headlocks from punches
- Weapon defences: two attackers armed with coshes; cosh disarms (forehand and backhand); metal chain; knife attack to the solar plexus
- Grab defences: two hand to two hand wrist grabs rear; being grabbed around the neck from the rear
- Hold-downs: Full knowledge
- Nage no kata: hip-throw techniques plus all names and group names
- Wrist lock throws from punch and knife attacks with full application and finish demonstrating control
- Knowledge of strangulation techniques and counters
- Grappling and defence on the ground against upright attackers including take-downs
- Defence against two unarmed random attackers
