5th kyu
With green belt comes an extra degree of skill as the various different techniques start to become integrated together. As such, green belts are regularly placed in charge of lower grades to instruct and supervise them.
Syllabus requirements decrease from this point as the emphasis changes towards style and skill rather than sheer breadth.
Additional requirements for green
- Ukemi: Forwards over and off the back of someone on all fours
- Throws: body drop, sweeping hip, lifting, drawing hip, irimi-nage, major inner reap from a kick, floating hip and valley drop and an understanding of uchi komi for major outer reap and shoulder throw
- Hold-downs: Reverse, side four-quarters; upper four-quarters; lower four-quarters; reverse scarf; chest holds
- Kicks: Rear and roundhouse
- Locks: Wristlocks four to six without putdowns
- Weapon defences: Basic knife and broken bottle defences
- Grab defences: Hair, ear and strangle defences with full application and finish from in front and behind; two hand to two hand wrist grabs (front); hadaka jime
- Counters: three arm locks
- Six ground immobilisations incorporating arm-locks and wrist-locks
- Defence in a circle
