2nd kyu
The dark blue syllabus consists mainly of additions to complete the full roster of techniques available, be it defences against any (reasonable!) weapon or avoidance skills.
Students advancing beyond dark blue need to spend a year in training and must have a fair idea of where they could run their own club. Knowledge, not just of what is required of themselves but of their students, is very important.
Other requirements for dark blue
- Throws: Side prop, major lifting pulling hip, arm wheel, circle throw, accompanying foot sweep, floating technique, side separation, four quarter/direction throw, dropping twist
- Locks: legs
- Counters: Head lock counters, leg lock counters
- Grab defences: defence against grab and punch
- Weapon defences: baseball bat; a single controlled attack with a dull-edged knife excluding slashes; two attackers armed with chains; two attackers with any mixture of rubber knives, coshes, plastic bottles, plastic broken bottles
- Nage no kata: As taught at the phase 1 Nage No Kata course
- Weapons: Use of baton against unarmed attackers using strikes, armlocks and strangles
- Groundwork: Forearm entanglement from lower four quarters hold; cross hold from lower four quarters hold; getting into the guard; countering the guard; four legs locks from groundwork positions (leg bar, single leg crush, foot/ankle twist, foot to knee rotation)
- Knowledge of first aid
